Maruti Ertiga unveiled in India with a price range of Rs.5.9 lakh to Rs. 7.3 Lakh.

Announcing its entry into a new segment of cars, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd. (MSIL), on Thursday, introduced Ertiga, a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), primarily targeted at big Indian families living in urban areas. And to further intensify the price war in the fast-growing Indian car market, Ertiga comes with price tags between Rs.5.89 lakh and Rs.7.30 lakh for the petrol versions and Rs.7.30 lakh and Rs.8.45 lakh for the diesel variants.

The petrol variant of Ertiga is equipped with the new version of K-series 1.4 litre engine that delivers 95 PS of power and 16.02 km a litre of mileage, while the diesel variants comes with 1.3 litre power train that gives 90 PS of power and delivers fuel economy of 20.77 km a litre.

Maruti Suzuki is projecting Ertiga an attractive option for customers looking to upgrade to a sedan.

“Ertiga is a major step forward for Maruti Suzuki. Many urban families in India are now looking for a vehicle that offers more space and flexibility than a sedan, without being bulky, bland and expensive like a utility vehicle…Ertiga is designed for these customers,” MSIL Managing Director and CEO S. Nakanishi told journalists here.

Notably, in recent years, MPVs have emerged as the fastest growing sub-segment among utility vehicles, showing a growth of around 20 per cent in the past three years. MPVs presently account for around 10 per cent share of the Indian automobile industry.

The Indian MPV segment is currently dominated by Toyota's Innova and Mahindra & Mahindra's Xylo.

MSIL invested about Rs.410 crore to develop Ertiga, primarily for the Indian market, but the company also plans to export it starting from Southeast Asian markets.

“Ertiga is a global product and definitely we will export it to international markets, mainly in Southeast Asia and to begin with Indonesia…we have already started export of Ertiga's completely knocked down units to Indonesia, where it will be assembled at parent Suzuki's plant,” Mr. Nakanishi said.

Stating that Ertiga would further boost the company's market share, MSIL Managing Executive Officer Mayank Pareek said the company would continue to focus on the compact car segment as India would remain a market for such product while at the same time fresh models like Ertiga in new segment would help in expanding the overall share.

Tata Motors Plans to export Left hand drive Nano.

Recently Tata told that Nano is not a poor man,s car.  But Tata  taught us that  an effeicient car can be manufactured in low cost with all facilities.  In the last month also tata has sold 10,000 units  Nano.  Tata is now planning to export Nano to more countries.  Presently they are exporting Nano to Sri Lanka, Nepal and Bengladesh where Right hand drive is experienced. 

Recently Tata Motors has announced that they have started working on the left hand drive option for the Nano for other markets outside India.  By changing the existing option of Right hand drive to left hand they can move to other parts of world like South America, South east Asia and Africa.

The leading car maker in India Maruti Suzuki,  is gearing-up to launch an upgraded version of its famous  hatchback Ritz very soon.  The Maruti Ritz was introduced in the country 3 years back.  This will be the first ever face-lifted version of Maruti Ritz in the Indian market since its launch.Recently a spy picture of the facelifted version of Maruti Ritz was seen in facebook which attracted so many car lovers.

The new Ritz  picture  shows some  modification in the front  of the car including a bolder chin, a more aggressive Audi-esque front grille, bonnet with a new design and newly styled housings for the front fog lamps.
Inside, the car will be blessed with a number of  upgrades including  new interior color theme, improved quality of materials etc.
As far as engine system of the new Ritz facelift is concerned, it is most likely to carry forward the same petrol and diesel engine options available in the current model of the car including a 1.2L petrol engine that generates a peak power of 84 bhp and 1.3L multijet diesel engine that delivers a top output of 74 bhp. Renault Koleos introduced in India.

French automobile major Renault  launched its premium sports utility vehicle (SUV) Koleos and announced plans to introduce its hatchback, specifically designed for the Indian market.

Priced at Rs.22.99 lakh, Renault  Koleos comes with 2-litre diesel engine delivering a maximum power output of 150 PS and fuel efficiency of 13.7 km a litre. The stylish  Renault Koleo SUV is available in a 4x4 transmission mode with a six-speed automatic gear box, while it is loaded with several innovative safety and luxury features, including eight Bose speakers as a standard feature, a first in the Indian car industry.

“We made our debut in the Indian market with the premium sedan Fluence in May… The launch of Renault  Koleos is a step forward in our plans to introduce five cars in the Indian market by the end of 2012,” Renault India Managing Director Marc Nassif told journalists here.

Car buyers would have to shell out more for their choice of vehicles, as Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee proposed to raise the excise duty on small and large vehicles to its highest level in nearly four years, while also refraining from laying additional tax on diesel-driven vehicles.

Prices of all cars (compacts and sedans), utility vehicles (sports, multi-utlity and vans), commercial vehicles and two-wheeler is slated to rise by a minimum two per cent. The central excise duty has been enhanced by two percentage points to 12 per cent to 10 per cent.

In addition, there has been a two-way increase in excise duty on large cars. In keeping with the increase proposed in the standard rate the duty on such cars have been increased to 24 per cent from 22 per cent.

Presently, petrol cars longer than four meters having engine capacity above 1,200-cc and diesel cars longer than four meters with an engine capacity above 1,500-cc attract excise duty at the rate of 22 per cent, plus Rs 15,000.

Further, those vehicles, which attracted a tax of 22 per cent plus Rs 15,000, will now be subject to switching over to an ad valorem rate of 27 per cent, according to the finance minister's proposal.

The excise duty on all compact cars (as defined by the government) and two-wheelers was brought down to eight per cent from 12 per cent and to 20 per cent from 24 per cent on large cars in the first stimulus package of December 2008.

Further, fully imported large cars, SUVs and MUVs having engine capacity above the specified capacity with value exceeding $40,000 (about Rs 19.60 lakh) will now attract a custom duty of 75 per cent as against the current 60 per cent.

As a result car and SUV making companies like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, General Motors, Honda, among several others are taking a price hike across all their models. Commercial vehicle and two-wheeler makers like Hero MotoCorp, Bajaj Auto, Honda Motorcycle are evaluating an increase.

Though the exact quantum of increase is yet to be finalised by most manufacturers experts say that it could range between Rs 3,000-Rs 35,000 for cars and SUVs while that for two-wheelers the hike would mean an increase in the range of Rs 800-2,000. Commercial vehicle could pass an increase of Rs 15,000-35,000.

Pawan Goenka, president (automotive and farm equipment sectors) Mahindra & Mahindra said to a television channel, "The hike in duty will surely impact demand but it will wear off with time".

Imported cars whose price is double in India compared to the selling price in their home market will see a further hike by at least 15 percentage points. Price of models of Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Jaguar, Porsche, Bentley and Rolls Royce will go up as a result.

Meanwhile, to provide a competitive edge to home grown bicycle makers, the FM increased the customs duty on it to 30 per cent from 10 per cent and on bicycle parts from 10 per cent to 20 per cent.

Also, commercial vehicle bodies, on which specific rate of Rs 10,000 on chassis and applicable ad valorem duty is charged will now see a uniform rate of three per cent.

Specified parts required for the manufacture of hybrid vehicles enjoy full exemption from basic customs duty and special CVD with concessional excise duty/ CVD of six 6 per cent This concession is being extended to specified additional items and lithium ion batteries imported for the manufacture of battery packs for supply to electric or hybrid vehicle manufacturers.

Tata plans to assemble Jaguar Luxury cars in India.

Tata Motors-owned Jaguar Land Rover will consider assembling Jaguar luxury cars in India in the next 3-5 years. "We are looking at it, but volumes in India are very small now," said Adrian Hallmark, brand director, Jaguar Global. "As we go forward, we will surely consider this."

At present the British company assembles sports utility vehicle brand Land Rover's Freelander at parent Tata Motors' Pune plant in India.When asked for a timeline to start assembly of Jaguar cars in India, Hallmark said: "We have not planned anything right now, but in the next 3-5 years, we can imagine this happening in India."He, however, did not share any specific details such as possible location of the assembly unit or the first model to be rolled out locally.

During 2010-11 fiscal, the total sales of both Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles in India stood at 891 units compared to 242 units in the previous year.  Jaguar Land Rover is currently planning to set up an engine manufacturing facility in India in order to meet the demand in the country.  The company that is investing £355 million in an engine plant in the UK, however, said the investments on the planned Indian facility could be lesser.
